Local Pediatrician Launches GFL Program For Youth!
At our 2009 Fall Rally, GFL was excited to introduce Dr. Sharon Menkus and Dr. Jim Straub, colleagues at Pediatric and Adolescent Associates in Lexington, as new members of our Medical Advisory Board. Dr. Menkus (photo at left) has offered to organize and lead a local activities and support program exclusively for gluten free youth! To make this effort a success, we need YOU!
If you are a gluten free parent, teenager, school-age kid, or kid-minded volunteer, please join Dr. Menkus and GFL in this effort to ensure the physical and emotional health of our youth. YOUR input during this brainstorming phase will help GFL determine how we can best respond to the needs of local gluten free kids and parents. If you would like more information, or want to get involved, please click here to send your email to Dr. Menkus at kidsrock@glutenfreelex.org. To successfully launch this program, we need the following:
-
Feedback & Suggestions - What important challenges and problems are you dealing with, related to gluten disorders or the gluten free diet? What did you hope to find when you first clicked on this page? What do you wish your local support group could do for you?
-
Kid-minded volunteers and leaders. Even if you don't currently have kids of your own, we'll need people to help make things happen once the plans are drawn up.
-
Web site volunteers. These volunteers would have computer skills.
To join this effort - or if you just need more information - please click here. Let us know if you'd like to receive occasional updates by email. Or just keep your eyes on this web site for announcements of future events and planning sessions.
For inspiration, the Kids Korner web page at our parent organization's national web site is just one example of what a support group and its web site can offer on behalf of gluten free kids. We also recommend the resources found at www.celiackids.com, provided by Dana Korn, author of Living Gluten Free for Dummies and Kids With Celiac Disease: A Family Guide to Raising Happy, Healthy Gluten Free Children.
