Kids Krner

Please forgive our 'stretched' header area above. We have expanded our width for this page only, in order to accomodate a live 'frame' of the Celiac Disease Foundation's Kids Korner page below. (The Celiac Disease Foundation is our national parent organization.) We will continue to display the national CDF Kids Korner until we are able to realize our dream of providing a local page that will better serve the needs of celiac kids (and their parents! ) in the immediate Lexington area.

Since 60% of all celiacs are diagnosed in childhood, all of us at Gluten Free Lexington feel a great burden to become more 'kid-friendly.' We can't do that, of course, until the right people and resources are in place. The web page below is just one example of what a support group and its web site can offer on behalf of celiac kids. Another excellent example can be seen at www.celiackids.com. We also recommend the resources provided by Dana Korn, author of Living Gluten Free for Dummies and Kids With Celiac Disease: A Family Guide to Raising Happy, Healthy Gluten Free Children.  Ms. Korn is also the founder of the support group R.O.C.K. (Raising Our Celiac Kids).  For more information on Dana Korn, go to www.glutenfreedom.net.

If you are a celiac parent - or kid - please join us in our effort to respond to the needs of local celiac kids and parents. To begin making our dream a reality, we need the following:

  • Feedback & Suggestions - What important challenges and problems are you dealing with, related to CD or the gluten free diet? What did  you hope to find when you first clicked on this page? What do you wish your local support group could do for you?
  • Kid-minded volunteers and leaders. Even if you don't currently have kids of your own, we'll need people to help make things happen once the plans and resources are in place.
  • Web site volunteers. This is really a subset of the above bullet point, but these volunteers would also have computer skills.
  • Pediatricians and other kid-oriented professionals. There's room on our advisory board - and on our web site - for you!

To respond to any of the above bullet points, please click here. And thanks for visiting the Kids Krner!
